For the past 12 months, Sara and I have watched our little baby grow
from just over 7 pounds to an active, walking toddler. I always thought that I could not be any
happier than the day Christopher was born, but looking back through the past year
has proven me completely wrong. It is
the journey of parenthood that makes me happier each day when it comes to my
little man. It has sometimes been difficult to even keep up with our growing boy,
but he continues to amaze us with his development and keep us entertained with
his personality and love. Christopher is
now over 20 pounds and more than half of Sara’s height. He no longer drinks from a bottle and is on
whole milk instead of formula. This
weekend, we said goodbye to pureed baby food and are solely on toddler and
table foods – That’s what he really wants at this point anyway, and Mommy and
Daddy are looking forward to the money savings.
While he has been walking for a couple of months now, Christopher is
doing a little bit of climbing. He knows
the dogs by name (Luna is his favorite and is typically pronounced, “Nu-na,”
when he calls her). Most importantly,
though, is Christopher is now into hugging and kissing us. That, my friends, is the best.
March 8 was a Thursday this year, which meant a party at daycare. Sara and I did not expect anything to happen
at school that day, but we dropped him off in his “Birthday boy” shirt. Just before the end of the day, we received
some emailed pictures from the daycare staff.
The teachers gathered all the toddlers in the afternoon, outfitted them
with party hats, and sang Happy Birthday
to Christopher. As you can see, it was
quite the celebration. On Saturday, we shared the big milestone with lots of family and
friends. Our home was quite literally
filled with out-of-town grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, joined by many
of our close friends and their little ones.
Many more friends and family shared in spirit and by cards in the
mail. Christopher really enjoyed the
food. He enjoyed eating some monkey cake
that Daddy made him – or the frosting at least, before tearing the rest of it
apart. He even enjoyed opening some
gifts – until he got bored and decided the boxes were more entertaining. But he mostly enjoyed spending time with the
family and other little ones at the party.
Based on the number of party-goers and pile of gifts, Christopher is one
little boy that is very much loved.
Mommy and Daddy are so happy to have shared this day with so many. Thanks to you all! |
